When it comes to solving problems, the difference between flexible and stubborn is that the flexible will find a way while the stubborn will be fucking around for months and months after.
Being flexible is like being curious, but having balls to stop being curious when it gets unhealthy. In contrast, it’s about turning on your curiosity and open-mindedness when you’ve faced the dead end.
Some people may confuse being stupid for being flexible.
For me, a stupid person is the one who is interested in everything, but never actually masters something.
In contrast, a flexible person is the one who has already overcome uncertainty and is now focused on becoming a master at one thing while creating a backup plan in case the major plan doesn’t work out.
I am a content writer. I spent 12 months learning how to write good content, and I keep writing different types of content every day (presentations, landing pages, articles, news, press releases, etc.) I’m learning, progressing, and my salary grows exponentially.
Let’s say in 2 years from now, I will be writing the rest of the content (white papers, technical documentation, RFP, research reports, etc.) This is the peak. I’m killing it. I’m making all the money a content writer can be
My salary plateaus.
AI (Artificial Intelligence) joins the chat.
Oh, did we just teach computers how to write content? Shit. What am I to do?
Stressed, nervous, I’m trying to land at least some kind of job to keep up with my lifestyle and pay my bills. I wasn’t ready. And after such a loss, I’m definitely not ready to dig into something else too deep because I know it’s going to crash one day.
But I’m not stupid.
Instead, as soon as I got really good at writing content, I plan my way out. I’m planning to quit this niche any time by learning other skills like Project Management, Business Analysis, Sales, etc.
These professions are arguably solving much more complex issues than content creation. They solve business problems. From running a project and optimizing resources to negotiating a better deal with a client, the problems are complex, diverse, much higher paid, and won’t definitely be replaced with robots so soon.
This is what being flexible means.
As you might have already guessed, there are several skills and abilities that you need to have in order to embrace flexibility:
I’d like to drop a few lines on this one:
Flexibility is about being open-minded and thinking one or two steps ahead. It is not as complicated as it sounds. It simply means that you need to have several sources of whatever makes you happy.
However, the best source that you possess is, of course, your loved self. Find your internal love and peace, and you’ll be able to overcome the worst phases of your life.
